Sunday, December 3, 2017, 5:30pm - 6:15pmEvent: The Deacon as the Ear, Mouth, Heart, and Soul of the BishopMost of us meet a deacon in our parish setting. However, the deacon is ordained to assist the Bishop so that he might serve all those entrusted to his care. This ancient way of describing the deacon as the ear, mouth, heart and soul of the Bishop helps us to appreciate why the diaconate has been restored in our own time as a particular and permanent rank of the hierarchy. This presentation will explore the theological and practical aspects of the relationship of the deacon to the Bishop and then to priests and all the baptized in the local church. The 6:30pm Sunday Mass in the Basilica follows the event.

Each lesson is followed by a carol, reflecting on the message and taking us into prayer. This year, the Martin Saints students will help lead the songs.
