A busy season for our Fairport parish communities...
I hope your summer was a good one! Some folks say it was too rainy, others say it was not long enough, still others decry the shorter growing season. I was grateful for the time to relax a bit and enjoy the season. So much of how we feel about things is determined by our attitude.
I look back with delight on the outdoor Masses of each of our parishes ("Mass in the Grass", as they have been affectionately been dubbed). They were well attended and joyfully celebrated our life together. It was a highlight of summer activities for me to preside at these prayerful experiences
Now our children are back off to school and Fall programming is beginning at the both parishes. Our parish communities are finding new ways to collaborate with each other and to build up the community of faith in our part of Fairport. This year will see the continued growth of the Fairport Catholic Community as Resurrection and Assumption continue conversations with St John's about our future ministry together. This will be a year of planning and anticipation as we work together. Already the Parish Council leadership of COTA and COR has been meeting to facilitate the unfolding of the our future as the Fairport Catholic Community. More will follow on this.
In the meantime, enjoy these last days of "calendar summer" as we get ready for the leaves to fall and the air to chill!
All are welcome!

Back to School Prayers
For our students:
God of wisdom and might,
we praise you for the wonder of our being,
for mind, body, and spirit.
Be with our children as they begin a new school year. Bless them and their teachers and staff.
Give them the strength and grace as their bodies grow; wisdom and knowledge to their minds
as they search for understanding;
and peace and zeal to their hearts.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord.
For our teachers:
Lord God, your spirit of wisdom fills the earth
and teaches us in your ways.
Look upon our teachers.
Let them strive to share their knowledge
with gentle patience
and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds. Grant that they may follow Jesus Christ,
the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
forever and ever.
