St. Thomas the Apostle Future
In 2008 before the Archdiocese implemented its moratorium on new construction processes, St. Thomas the Apostle was actively engaged in campus planning with the intention of eventually building a new church. This summer we received clearance from the Archdiocese to take some initial steps to resume this process, which in light of the large volume of residential construction in Corcoran and western Maple Grove, is right on time.
Therefore, with the assistance of the trustees, we will be starting a St. Thomas the Apostle Future Planning Committee whose initial tasks will be to secure a new demographic study of the parish and region and to interpret the results of this study in order to determine whether we would be justified in creating a long-term campus development plan at this time. The committee will be forming in early 2018. It will include members of the parish council, finance council and the board of trustees. We are also looking for three at-large members from the broader parish community of St. Thomas. If you are interested, and feel you have some professional or life experience that could be an asset to this committee, please send an email to Brook Sullivan at
. Fr. Gallas will review the applicants and choose three parishioners for this valuable work. Thank you for your interest!
Ss. Peter and Paul Updates
At Ss. Peter and Paul we completed in the last few years some essential maintenance and updates on the church including a new roof, new stairs, heating and cooling, as well as the changes to the traffic flow, but there is still more to be done. We are looking forward to the beginning of the tuck point work in January 2018 which will seal and strengthen the mortar and keep the church dry and well-protected and all the bricks in place. We still need your help! The total cost of the tuck point project was $151,000 and to date we have raised $95,000 and we have $30,000 in our campus fund and so we still need to raise $26,000 to complete the full job. We are grateful for whatever you can give!
Finally, and at long last, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima for Ss. Peter and Paul has arrived at the parish office and we are making the final preparations to have her installed in the church which will take place during Advent!
We have a great cluster and two great parishes and we want to make sure both parishes are positioned well for holiness, growth and success.
