Meet the New Candidates for our 2018 Vestry
Eileen Barna, Communications/Evangelism
Our family joined St. Mark's in 2015. My husband, Jim, and our two sons, Jackson (14) and Ethan (12), have been living in Basking Ridge since 2007. We own TrueLeaf Kitchens, which happens to be right across the street from St. Mark's. We are very happy to be living, working and worshiping in such a great community.
I grew up in Exton, PA, graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University and have had a career in marketing and sales. My husband and I are born and raised Catholic and decided to join St. Mark's because Father Rick gave us the inspirational guidance we were searching for and we liked the feeling of being part of a smaller, close-knit community. I love to read, paint, hike, and ski when I have free time.
I am excited about the communications/evangelism commission because I feel passionate that we need to spread the word about how great St. Mark's is and the many interesting programs our parish offers.
James Lunny, Junior Warden
Patty and I moved here to Basking Ridge in August of 1994, having previously lived in Westfield, NJ, Tacoma, WA and Atlanta, GA. Soon after settling here we joined the St. Mark’s community. We’ve been fortunate to have found here a wonderful welcoming family and have been blessed to have made many of our closest friends here. We have four daughters, Kristen, Meg, Samantha and Jaime, all who grew up spiritually here. The four no longer live in the immediate area, but luckily all remain in the Northeast and we are now also blessed with 3 wonderful sons-in-law and 3 grandchildren. Meg and Mike’s wedding was the first here at St. Mark’s performed by Father Rick.
I graduated from Lehigh University with a BS in Chemical Engineering. I also have an MBA from New York University and a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Seton Hall. I am currently part of the management team of a small, private company that provides various services to life and disability insurance companies, including return to work assistance for individuals on long term disability.
When we lived in Westfield, I served on the vestry of St. Paul’s Church. Here at St. Mark’s, I have been privileged to have served 2 terms on the vestry in the capacities of Stewardship, Christian Education, Fundraising and Outreach, and I previously served as Warden in 2000 through 2001.
In my spare time I enjoy golf, gardening, working on projects around the house and being with my family and friends.
I am honored to be nominated to serve as Junior Warden. In this position, I will work to support our Rector, Senior Warden and the other vestry members, and to continue to nurture the growth of St. Mark’s.
Gerald McDonnell, Stewardship
Hello. I am married to Lesley and we live in Homestead, Basking Ridge with our 2 children Matthew (10) and Sophie (7). Our family moved to Basking Ridge in 2015, after many moves taking us from the USA to England and back again. We have been members of St. Mark’s since moving to the area, and have really enjoyed being part of the community.
I grew up in Ireland in a town called Dundalk, right on the border with Northern Ireland and in the area where the ‘Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea’. I attended the University of Ulster, Coleraine (graduating in BSc Medical Laboratory Sciences) and Trinity College, Dublin (PhD in Genetics and Microbiology). I did several postdoctoral positions in Ireland and Colorado working on controlling transmissible diseases, and then moved into industry in various roles involving microbiology and infection prevention. I am currently working for Johnson and Johnson. I like running, hiking, reading, and writing. Most of my writing is scientific, including papers and books, with a new book just published in October. I am also trying to restore (slowly) a 1931 Model A Ford.
It was a great honor to be asked to serve on the Vestry and particularly the Stewardship commission.
Lea O'Shea, Outreach
I am a mother of two grown boys who surprise me every day with their wit, courage, compassion, and fascination for this world. I grew up in Parsippany and lived in several places around the New York area before settling in Basking Ridge in 2005. I am fortunate to have much of my family right in town. I work in Summit for Celgene Corporation as an Instructional Designer (I design training) and have a small portrait photography business that I call my "jobby" because it is a hobby where I make a little money. It took me many years of reinventing myself to find my real passion. Now I am living my dream! I stay active walking, hiking, biking, and practicing yoga and also love nature in many forms - from visiting places that take my breath away to hanging out on my porch and garden watching the birds. I am known for my very yummy chocolate chip cookies.
I've been a member of St. Marks for about 4 years. I've really enjoyed every part I've played in making St. Marks tick - reading, running the Sunday Facebook recording, cooking for Keansburg, baking, photography, and even bar tending. I a really excited about joining the Outreach team. I count my blessings every day and feel that giving to those less fortunate is not only a responsibility, but the biggest gift we can pass on to our children. I give my time and talent because I watched my family do it their whole lives.
