ICC NEWSLETTER - The Presentation of the Lord 2018
Punxsutawney Phil Let Us Down!
If you attended Mass this past weekend you know that it was a rough one for me. Now, with the flu seemingly in my rear view mirror (but still "closer than it may appear"), please be assured of my prayers for each and every one of you - that you
remain in good health
. Wash your hands frequently. Encourage your children to practice good hygiene at school. Wave at your fellow parishioners during the Sign of Peace.
Finally, thank you for your overwhelming show of love and support. I was blown away by the amount of soup, food, care packages, homeopathics, and more that I received. I am truly blessed to be the Pastor of this church.
Now on to happier things!
The CYO will be hosting its annual Superbowl Pool event again this Saturday!
As you know from past years, the Superbowl Pool is our CYO's sole fundraising activity. 50% of the proceeds go to the winners of the various quarter, halftime, and final score numbers, and 50% of its proceeds go to funding capital projects. Upcoming project highlights include replacing the padding on the school stage, resurfacing the gym floor, and replacing the over 7-year-old uniforms our kids have been wearing. Although at the time of this writing all but one box had been sold, and it is likely gone now...
you can still participate!
Anyone who already purchased a box
and their spouse or date, can come by the Broadway Grill (8 South Broadway) right here in town, from 7:30PM - 10:00PM, and have a blast with a catered dinner, drinks, and great people,
$20 per person
If you didn't purchase a box
, you can still join in the fun
$35 per person
but please let us know by the end of the day today (Friday, Dec. 2)
This is a great event, and the good folks running it want to make sure everyone has enough to eat and drink.
Yesterday our Confirmandi spent the day on Retreat, listening, praying and learning about our belief in God, our Faith, and how to grow and live as adolescent Catholics. With each year that passes, the lessons they learn on Retreat become more and more critical to their development and religious formation. Our children are bombarded each and every day with images and messages that teach them, trick them, and coerce them into believing
of what the learn in their Religious Education classes. They are exposed to them at school... online via Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, and Facebook... in the lyrics of the music they listen to... and in the programs and movies they watch.
Please keep all of our children in your prayers, but please especially pray for their parents. They have a difficult -
- job to do. May God bless them.
LENT IS COMING
Ash Wednesday is officially less than two weeks away. Unfortunately for all of you lovebirds who were going to celebrate St. Valentine's Day
St. Valentine's Day, the rules of fasting and abstinence take precedence over your plans for romantic dinners. So - if you'd like to spend a romantic evening with your sweetheart, do it the weekend before! (St. Valentine would be proud.)
Ash Wednesday Masses:
8:30AM, 12:00PM, 7:30PM
Ash Wednesday Service:
Well, it's time for another 100,000,000 mg. of Vitamin C!
Forget the groundhog and think Spring!
See you at Mass on Sunday... I hope!
Mary, the Immaculate Conception, on this the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, pray for us.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
