Msgr Mike's Blog | Seeking to be the best
The best team in football. The best song of the year. The Grammy Awards and the Super Bowl determine the best artist and football team. It was Bruno Mars last week - will it be Tom Brady this weekend? These much anticipated annual events certainly spark a great deal of interest and publicity. The excitement is built upon competition as so much in our world seems to be. Everyone seeking to be the best - the greatest - the one and the only. Winners and losers are everywhere.
In our life of faith we also seek to be the best. But becoming the best is not always built upon competition. Cooperation can also get us there. That is the key to becoming a Christian community and true disciples of Jesus. We become the best when we help others to become the best they can be. Parents and children. Teachers and students. Coaches and players.
On the way up the ladder to be the best, we can compete all the way or cooperate with others on their way. We can look at the person behind on the ladder of success and decide to use our feet to push them down or our hands to help them up.
How will you seek to the best this week?
