Weekly Parish News
A fantastic weekend for the youth of our parish! Fish Fry Fri., Cemetery Cleanup Sat., Happy Anniversary Pope Francis!
St. Mary has a place for ALL our youth!
This past weekend was a wonderful example of everything going right here at our Parish for our youth of all ages. Simply put, if we want our youth to stay close to the Catholic faith, we need a place for them to belong. Through our elementary, middle school and high school programs we are doing just that! Groups encourage our youth in making good healthy and holy relationships with peers and adult mentors guiding them on their faith journeys! God Bless all the leaders who make this all happen.
Many awards for our high school CYM group at DCYC
This past weekend, 19 high school youth & 4 adult sponsors from St. Mary & Our Lady of Guadalupe parishes attended the annual Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference held at the DoubleTree Hilton Wichita Airport hotel. The greatest honor we received was the "CYM group of the year award" pictured above! Only one parish in the Diocese is chosen each year to receive this award, this is the 2nd time in the past 3 years we have won this award! Thank you to our wonderful adult leaders Bill & Carrie Weber & Justin & Becky Patterson for leading us to this wonderful award!
Other individual awards went to Abby Weber for the "Light of Christ Award" and Rebecca Ring & Gage Klassen for "Outstanding Youth Awards"
Finally we will continue to have 2 representatives on the Diocesan Catholic Youth Board! While Ryan Littlejohn & Abby Weber will be graduating after serving this year, Rebecca Ring & Kylie Martin will take their place serving on the board next year. Below is a picture of the board members receiving a blessing from Bishop Kemme.
And how about that 8th grade class?!!!
This past Friday the SMCS 8th grade class put on their production of "Willie Wonka and the Factory". First, a performance for the rest of the school during the day. Then in the evening following the Friday lenten meal, they performed for an even larger crowd in the St. Mary gym. Thank you to English teacher, Diane Patton for leading the class and to all those others who made this such a huge success!
Then, the following morning the same group of students plus their parents attended a day long retreat held here at the church and parish center. The retreat is called "Project Freedom" and is intended for both students and parents. The parents received a wonderful workshop on raising chaste and virtuous teens with an adult presenter, while the students worked through the same topics lead by a team of college age students, much like Totus Tuus. This is St. Mary's 3rd time hosting this retreat in the past 4 years, we hope it to continue as a "right of passage" for all of our youth as they mature into their high school years.
Cub Scouts hold annual Blue & Gold Banquet Sunday.
This past weekend also was the annual culminating event for our Cub Scout pack 143. The number of boys involved with cub & boy scouts here have exploded! Pictured above is the 1st grade, Tiger group, 1 of 4 groups in the pack. This great event held in the gym was for all those in 5th grade and younger, and to welcome those going into 6th grade next year as new members of the boy scout group. Thank you to pack leader Mike Ruggiero and all the other leaders for making this program such a huge success!
*And what about our young girls? Our Little Flowers girls club has also been having a great year and will conclude their year on April 7th with their 3rd annual Tea Party, pictures to follow!

Happy 5th anniversary Pope Francis!
It was 5 years ago today, March 13, 2013, that Pope Francis was elected as our new pope. The picture above is from an all diocesan Catholic school faith rally, held on the same day Pope Francis was announced. Many of our teachers and students were present for this amazing event.
