Msgr Mike's Blog | Happy Easter
Happy Easter. Today I join Fr. Juan and the parish staff of St. Mary's in wishing you and your families a joy-filled and faith-filled Easter. After 40 long days of Lent and an even longer winter, Easter ushers forth a new spring and our Eucharistic celebrations renew our faith in God's love and the promise of new life through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This past Tuesday, in the midst of the Holy Week, the bishops, priests and seminarians of our Diocese joined together at St. Paul's Cathedral along with a church filled with parish representatives and students from our Catholic high schools for the celebration of the Chrism Mass. Before Bishop McManus blessed the holy oils that will be used throughout the year, the priests took a moment to renew our priestly commitment to serve the people of God. We also took time to congratulate the priests who were celebrating 25, 50 and even 70 year anniversaries of ordination. Our bishops also marked significant anniversaries of ordination - Bishop Reilly 70 years, Bishop Rueger 65 years and Bishop McManus 40 years.
Celebrating priesthood, we look back with gratitude and to the future with hope. It was a blessing to have our three seminarians with us during Holy Week. Jose, Christian and Juan joined us for Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, GoodFriday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday. If they weren't serving here at St. Mary's, they were serving one of the ceremonies at the Cathedral. It was great to have these three fine young men with us for the most important celebrations of the church year.
Please be sure to keep Jose and Christian in your prayers as they return to the seminary in Baltimore to complete their semester and also Juan as he continues his studies in English at Clark University and joins us on the weekends. Let us now enjoy and celebrate the 50 days of the Easter season.
