First Eucharist Masses this weekend
First Eucharist Masses are among my favorite Masses of the year. It is such a wonderful experience to be with our children as they receive this sacrament for the very first time. In addition to a couple of Saturday Masses early in the day at Emmaus we do first Eucharist during regular weekend Masses. In that manner First Eucharist becomes a celebration of the entire parish. Children will be receiving First Eucharist at the following regular weekend Masses this weekend. Those Masses will be a bit longer than our usual Masses but the experience of being with our children on this special day in their lives is worth a few minutes more at Mass.
Saturday Vigil at 5:00 PM
Sunday at 8:30 AM and 12:15 PM
Count on Me Thank You
We have had an excellent response to our Count on Me annual offertory commitment. Thank you to all who have sent in your commitment cards. If you have not yet done so please do so soon. We are working on the annual budget for the parish. Your commitment cards help us in that process.
Thank you to Catechists and to all of the Religious Education Staff
I cannot express enough my appreciation to all of the religious education catechists, volunteers and staff. As our parish grows our RE programs grow larger each year. My observation has been that this year has been one of our most dynamic. That is so because of the dedication of our religious education staff, catechists and volunteers on all levels from pre-school through high school. But even more it is true because of the dedication of parents to helping their children grow in the faith. Working together we can fulfill what the Church states is the most important work of a parish after providing the Eucharist for its people. That is passing the faith on to the generations that follow us.
Pastoral Council Elections Coming Soon
The pastoral council is a very important advisory body in the life of our parish. Their input to me and the parish staff is vital to our growing parish. In addition, they have been active in implementing a number of things that have enhanced parish life. We are still open for nominees to serve on the council. If you would like to nominate someone or yourself you can do so simply by going to the parish website and filling out the form that you will find there.
SEED Card Results from the Raffle Weekend
Tremendous results! Congratulations to Tony Armendariz for winning the $100 SEED gift card. Thank you to everyone that bought SEED cards last weekend. A usual weekend sales are $5,000 – 7,000 in SEED cards, but Raffle Weekend you all bought over $12,000 worth of cards and made over $1000 for Emmaus. Well done and keep it up!
It has been a long time since I have made restaurant recommendations. The reason for that is that I have just been going back to places that I know and love. However, I had some terrific food experiences recently that I want to share with you.
The Cypress Grill at 44004 W. William Cannon Dr. In Austin. If you are doing a Costco run go at midday and stop for lunch at the Cypress Grill for excellent Cajun food. It is not Louisiana but it is about as close to it as you can find in Austin. I had an excellent lunch shrimp po’boy there last week. Word is, from Louisiana natives, that everything else there is excellent as well.
Casa Maria at 4327 S. 1st Street in Austin. Casa Maria is located a few blocks south of Ben White in Austin at the corner of S. 1st and St. Elmo Streets. This is a must for Tex-Mex fans. The food is great. Even better is the fact that one can get breakfast for dinner. On my recent dinner visit I had migas and a margarita—a marvelous combination. The migas were terrific and the margarita was all that a margarita should be. I needed only one. The meal was worth every single carb. I did double my miles the next day to compensate but it was worth it.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Samuel Hose
