Mother's Day... 05/13/2018, Deacon Del
Brothers and Sisters,
This weekend, we celebrate Mother’s Day. Now, it would be a big mistake if this is the only day of the year that we give any consideration to our mothers. It probably is a good idea, though, that one Sunday is set aside to acknowledge how great our mothers are.
Mother’s Day in the U.S. first began in 1872, when Julia Howe (the lady who composed the Battle Hymn of the Republic) advocated for a Mother’s Day for peace. In 1914, Mother’s Day was declared a national holiday.
Jesus appreciated His mother. One of the very last things He did on Earth was make sure that she would be taken care of when He was gone. He said to John, “Behold your mother.” This weekend, let you and I do the same and honor our mothers.
Just think, much of what you have in life is there because of this woman, your mother. Even more important, much of who you are has come from her. Largely because of your mother, you know what it is like to love, be loved, and feel worthwhile.
You will have a peaceful home if the mother in your family is loved and appreciated.
Have a Blessed Mother’s Day.
