Summer arrives -- with a vengeance!
The only thing we can absolutely guarantee in this life is that change is inevitable. While change can be unnerving, it can also be a great thing because unexpected situations and new challenges stretch us to use the hidden talents that we never knew we could muster up until the need arises.
Take the very first day of this new month -- July 1. Who knew summer would arrive with a vengeance? (Do you remember how spring never seemed to arrive at all this year?). Most of us have adapted to the change in the outside temperature quite nicely, either by seeking a cool breeze from fans and air conditioning, or else super-hydrating ourselves with water and watermelons (one of my favorites).
Change is also a foot here in the parishes
. As you know by now, Fr. Sergio Chavez will leaving us next week to return to his native Colombia to attend urgent family needs. Of course our prayers and best wishes are with Fr. Sergio as he prepares to leave us, but our hearts are ever so hopeful that he will return to continue his priestly ministry here in the Diocese of Rochester soon.
Bishop Matano has invited
Fr. Carlos Sanchez
to serve as our new parochial vicar. We couldn't be happier to welcome him with open arms as he arrives next Monday (July 9th). Fr. Sanchez already has a job as chaplain at Strong Memorial Hospital and, since this is a vital priestly ministry to so many people, he will continue in that ministry, while serving our parish communities on a part-time basis.
Now, I know you're asking, "What does that mean?"
I have to be quite frank (remember I've been pastor for exactly 6 days now!), I'm not sure. All I can guarantee is that change is inevitable. But this will be a
change because we will all be called to listen more attentively voice of the Holy Spirit calling us all to be true disciples of the Lord Jesus.
Have a happy, safe (and cool) July!

A Summer Blessing
May you walk with God this summer
in whatever you do, wherever you go.
Walking with God means...
walking with honesty and with courage.
Walking with love and respect
and concern for the feelings of others.
May you talk to God this summer
on every day and in every situation.
Talking with God means...
praying words of praise for the beauty of creation.
Saying prayers of thanks for friends and good times. Asking God's help in all your decisions.
Expressing sorrow when you have failed.
May you talk with God every day.
