For the week of Sunday, July 8/15, 2018
Dear Members of Pax Christi,
This weekend we welcome Fr. Mike Byron to Pax Christi. He will be preaching at all the Masses on July 7 and 8 as he introduces himself to the people he now joins and pastors. His installation as the fifth pastor of Pax Christi will be celebrated at the 11:00am Mass on Sunday, July 15, with Archbishop Hebda as the main presider. More details of what the installation of a pastor means in the life of a faith community can be found in the July
PaxChristiNews magazine on page 5. I hope you can attend this celebratory Mass, with a reception following in Dorothy Day.
We have name tags to be filled out at the entrances to the worship space. As a gesture of welcoming Fr. Mike, I encourage you to create a nametag for yourself and wear it, particularly over the next month or two, as you introduce yourself to our new pastor.
I am also excited to tell you that we have hired Evan Bierer as the new Middle School Coordinator. He is still completing other previous commitments, and will begin his full ministry here the week of July 23 with the Middle School Service Camp. Please join me in welcoming Evan to our ministry team.
As you may have heard in the news, the Archdiocese and the Unsecured Creditors Committee filed a joint Plan of Reorganization, marking an important step in effectuating the recently announced $210 million settlement. This press release and other important pieces to the bankruptcy and reorganization, along with Pax Christi’s response, can be found on our website by

Tomorrow is Independence Day. Although it has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, the tradition of celebrating America’s independence goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution (1775-83). In pursuit of freedom, our nation’s founders crafted and established a country built on the basics of human dignity for Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. Edward Hays helps us to prayerfully incorporate these values of a free society given to us by our Creator, in
Prayers for a Domestic Church:
As free sons and daughters of God, may the Lamp of Truth burn brightly in our home and in each of our hearts. As brothers and sisters of Jesus, may we be faithful, as was He, to the wondrous freedom of the children of Light and be ever grateful for the pleasures of liberty. May our profound reverence for Truth, as piercing as a sword and ever-liberating, be our burning torch of Freedom and our shield against enslavement. Blessed are You, Lord our God, who has made us free persons.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe and blessed 4th of July!
