Sr. Eileen Egan, S.S.D., Age 77
Served as a teacher at the Academy of St. Dorothy and a teacher and principal at St. Patrick’s School both located on Staten Island for a number of years.
Sr. Eileen was born in New York City on December 26, 1940 to Patrick and Kathleen (Gibbons) Egan. Eileen was one of five daughters; Bernadette, Brenda, Mary Etna, and Una, all of whom have predeceased her along with a brother, Desmond. She is survived by two brothers, Patrick and Kevin Egan as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom she held in great fondness.
Sr. Eileen entered the Sisters of St. Dorothy on September 8, 1959 and made her final profession on July 4, 1969. Added to her roles of teacher and principal, Sister was also Provincial Coordinator of the community. Possessing a strong charisma, Sr. Eileen had many friends with whom she thoroughly enjoyed visiting. With a great love for her God, her community, family, and friends, Eileen also had a tremendous passion for life as well as a joy which she exuded no matter what was going on in her life.
Visitation will take place at Hanley Funeral Home on Friday, July 13th from 4:00-8:00pm and the Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church at 11:00am on Saturday, July 14th at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
