Final prep for school...
Today (Aug. 1), we celebrate the feast of St. Alphonsus Liguori. School for St. Mary / Pp. St. John Paul II starts next Wednesday (Aug. 8). If you're praying about your life and future and seeking God's wisdom on how you can best put your gifts and talents to work for the Kingdom or even if you're simply making your final preparations for school ask St. Alphonsus to pray with you. God has a plan for you to use every talent you've been given for His glory, if you let Him.
A little bit on St. Alphonsus: Picture the smartest person in your school. Picture the Valedictorian ~ the kid who finishes the SAT in record time, who never studies yet gets straight A's w/o ever breaking a sweat. Odds are, St. Alphonsus was smarter.
Many considered St. Alphonsus to be a child prodigy. This is a guy who earned his doctorate in law from the University of Naples (Italy) at 16 yrs. old. Yes, you read that correctly, while modern 16 yrs. old are worried abt. passing their driving test, St. Alphonsus was finishing his Ph.D. By the age of 21 he wasn't out bar-hopping; he'd opened his own legal practice , and it's said that he never once attended court if he hadn't 1st attended Mass. Put simply, St. Alphonsus was one really smart and very holy dude... (Holier than Thou by Mark Hart & Greg Iwinski)
