The 2018-2019 school year is now underway and our planning is already starting to begin for the 2019-2020 school year. One of the areas that we are taking a more in-depth look at is creating an Alternative Kindergarten (AK) program at St. Matthew. Alternative Kindergarten would be held five days a week (Monday through Friday) from approximately 8:15 AM - 2:00 PM.
For families interested in this program for the 2019-2020 school year, we are asking for your help in completing this survey to help us better understand your needs and how we can best tailor a program like this to meet the needs of our families.

Mrs. Staudacher will again be hosting Crochet Club for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. The group will begin meeting next Thursday, October 4th at 7:30 a.m. They will meet in the library. Students who were interested should have brought home an information sheet.
Students may wear their Rainbow Team shirts this coming Tuesday (with dress code pants) as they will be meeting with their Rainbow teams for the first time this year. All those who placed t-shirt orders should have received those by now. If you still need to place an order you may do so through Sunday night (30th). This will be the last day to order Rainbow Team shirts. Please note that if you do place an order for a shirt before the 30th it WILL NOT be delivered in time for Tuesday.
Is your child interested in doing some fun activities with friends? Club Fun has been established by some 5th graders looking to create a safe and fun environment for peers to get together and do craft activities; some of which will be service related. Club Fun will meet once a month on the 2nd Thursday of the month in Kearn Hall from 3:10 - 4:00 PM. In order for this event to work smoothly, we are needing the help of parent volunteers to supervise students in Kearn Hall on these Thursdays. If we do not have at least one parent volunteer we will have to cancel that months activity.
If you have any donations to offer this group, please place in the box in the main office. Please sign up below to supervise.

Parent Handbook Highlight
New this school year we are having Spirit Wear Fridays every week. This means students may wear a St. Matthew or Xavier top with any type of casual bottom (sweatpants, jeans, khakis, etc.) We hope the students enjoy getting to show off their school spirit and we hope parents appreciate the consistency of having it happen every Friday!
Essentials Team Highlight
The Essentials Team would like to share what RESPECT looks like in our classrooms. In PE students should use equipment as directed and with care, students should be aware of how their actions impact others, and students--whether they win or lose--should maintain a positive attitude. In MUSIC students should handle the shared equipment with care so all students benefit from using it and they should not vocalize distaste for an activity (remember they are only a few minutes long). In ART students let their creativity flow on their canvas and students are to know the expectations before they begin their project. In all essentials, we want your students to be safe, respectful, and have fun!
