Holy Sews/Group meeting 10/12 at 11:30
The Holy Sews projects sponsored by LIFTS.
The LIFT’S Group (Ladies In Faith Together) have been looking into projects that would benefit a group of people in some way. The group also wanted to offer others from our Church community and beyond to assist with this endeavor. We have contacted a group called Holy Sews. The nationwide organization makes burial layettes for infants who have died in miscarriage or stillbirth. Most often, the "micro-preemies" have passed away during gestational weeks 16-25, so they're far too small and fragile for store-bought baby clothing. The group's goal is to bring comfort to grieving parents and retain the dignity of the infants who have passed away.
The layettes are distributed to hospitals. The parents may choose one of several layettes. The main group of Holy Sews is based in Little Rock Arkansas and was started in 1988. It has now spread throughout the country. The group in the New York State area supplies over 1000 layettes to 26 hospitals. The little outer blanket is a 12 inch square. There is a little garment, inner cloth, tiny hat and a keepsake card for the family with all the baby and family information and a footprint. The New York State group has donated some of the needed materials to get started. This loving project means so much to those families. This takes away the stress at a difficult time of finding appropriate items to bury their newborn in.
We are looking for people who would like to take to take part in this ministry. People are needed to cut material, sew, knit or crochet, write out the cards, donate for postage and materials, etc. The state organization supplies the pattern, cards, and tiny bears for the pocket. LIFT’S is looking to deal with just Glens Falls Hospital for now to give the group time to get established and organize. Membership in the LIFT’S group is not required. If you think you might be interested, LIFT’S will have a meeting on to explain the project and explore what part of the project you might be interested. Please leave your name and preferably email, or phone number. Contact Lonnie Rasmussen or any LIFTS member for information. Holy Sews' national website is www.
A meeting will be held at 11:30 on October 12.
