Conference sign-up was sent on Thursday morning, please make sure you find a slot that works in your schedule and get signed up! If your child sees Mrs. Breitbach please remember to sign up for a conference with her as well.

Weather-Related and Emergency Text Notification
Yesterday we sent a TEST text message of our new weather-related and emergency notification system. This system will be used for:
Weather related early dismissal or late start
Weather related school cancellations
Emergency situations that we need to make you aware of
These text messages are not a regular communication tool that St. Matthew will be using. Only in the event of severe weather or an emergency will you receive this communication. If you did not receive the text notification, please let Ann know by emailing
or calling the school at 319-362-3021.
Red Ribbon Week
To help you plan ahead, please see below for the dress up days at the end of the month as we celebrate Red Ribbon Week.
Monday, October 29
- Twinkle, twinkle little star, if you do drugs you won’t go far. Dress up: PAJAMA DAY!
Tuesday, October 30
- Plaid is rad and drugs are bad, so spot ways to stay Drug Free! Dress up: WEAR PLAID OR POLKA DOTS!
Wednesday, October 31
- No Bones about it – staying Drug Free is the choice for me. Dress up: HALLOWEEN ORANGE & BLACK DAY!
Thursday, November 1
- I’m “Red”y to say Sock it to Drugs. Dress up: Wear RED SHIRTS (with dress code pants) and CRAZY SOCKS!
Friday, November 2
- Catch the Wave of a Drug Free Life! Dress up: HAWAIIAN DAY!
YPN Halloween Opportunities
Included are a couple of Halloween opportunities that have been put together to benefit YPN (Young Parents Network). Please consider attending either of these events to support a great cause and join in the Halloween fun! There are events planned for kids and adults.

Summit School Camp
Looking for something to keep the kids busy on their day off from school on October 26th? Summit School is hosting a day camp about creepy, crawling creatures. The camp runs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Indian Creek Nature Center. See the flyer for more information about signing up.

Xavier High School News and Information
Xavier Girls' Basketball Boosketball Camp
Girls in Grades K-4 are invited to join the XHS Girls' Basketball team for some Halloween hoops, skills, fun & treats while playing basketball on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Xavier High School. Cost for this camp is $30 and includes a t-shirt. Registration deadline is 10/20/18. Sign up at
"Saint Paint" Reminder!
Show your Xavier Catholic School spirit with "Saint Paint" from the Xavier Dance Team! The Xavier Dance team will come to your house one weekend during September/October to paint your driveway with the Xavier halo cross logo. The paint is durable and will last up to one year. All logos will be centered at the end of your driveway and painted navy/silver. The logo size is approximately 2.5 feet wide by 3 feet tall.
There’s no better way to show your school spirit than with some Saint Paint from the Xavier Dance Team! Deadline to order is 10/15/18.

Xavier X-Men Wrestling Club Registration
Xavier X-Men Wrestling Club is open to any student in preschool through 8th grade at any Xavier Catholic School or associated parish. Sign up has begun as the season starts soon. There is a parent meeting on Oct. 23rd at 6:30PM in the Xavier High School Novak Room (across the hall from the main office). Practices start Nov. 12th. See attached flyer or contact Ben Hoover (

Parent Handbook Highlight
Thank you! Thank you for choosing St. Matthew, thank you for partnering with us for the educational benefit of your student(s) and thank you for all the trust, support and nurturing you have provided me over the last 3 months! While change can sometimes be inevitable, I appreciate your willingness to jump in and embrace the differences from the past. Essentials Team Highlight
In PE we have been doing our fitness unit! Grades 3-5 have been working hard with fitness testing. The students are working on trying their best! Grades 2-5 have been using the heart rate monitors to show students different activities and ways we can get our heart rate in different zones. K-1 has been doing a lot of moving and hard work with fitness activities as well. The water fountain has had a lot of visitors recently, but the students are working hard and having fun! As always keep moving, have fun, and get your sweat on! --Ms. Carney
