In the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), sponsors serve not only as friends-in-Christ and companions in the faith for catechumens (those needing baptism) and candidates (those receiving first communion and/or confirmation), but
as representatives of the community.
We receive new Catholic Christians as a parish family. If you aren't sure why you're on this email, maybe it's because YOU are being called by God to sponsor one of the adults, teens, or children God is calling into deeper relationship with him through the church. Sponsors don't need to be experts. They don't need to be perfect Catholics (as if there is such a thing!). Sponsors need only be practicing Catholics willing to share their own experience of their faith journey. Is God calling you? Pray about it, won't you? And if you want more information, reply to this note or email or call Chris in the RE office (firstname.lastname@example.org; 303-233-1283).
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, contact me. I'm here to help. (Please note, I will be out of the office Thursday, January 3, and Friday, January 4, and back to work Monday, January 7.)
Many blessings to you all!
