Christ the King
Weekly Newsletter 5/18/2017
Message from Father Matt
As I announced last weekend at all the Masses, the Bishop has re-assigned me effective June 20th. I will be the new Pastor of Holy Spirit in Goddard. Father Ben Sawyer, who used to reside here at Christ the King, will be your new pastor. Father Ben has been away in Rome for the past two years working on a degree in Dogmatic Theology and Seminary Formation.
Because the Roman University is on a different time table than us, Father Ben will not start at Christ the King until August 1, 2017. I will remain as an administrator of Christ the King until he arrives to better facilitate the transition. As administrator, I will be available on a very limited basis. My job will be to make sure things run smoothly for the 6 weeks before Father Ben arrives.
I will be available to the laity for emergencies, funerals, and weddings which do not interfere with Holy Spirit’s Schedule. I will not be available for regular parish functions including Masses and Confessions. A substitute priest will be handling these obligations.
Please pray for me as I make this transition. I was hoping to be with you a few more years, but the Bishop feels that Holy Spirit is in need. Please also pray for Fr Ben Sawyer as he completes his academic work and prepares to lead you.
I look forward to seeing you all the weekend of June 17-18 where I will have a special farewell message for you.
Altar Society Ladies Enjoy a Tour of the IHM Convent
Twenty-two ladies carpooled to the IHM convent near St. Mark’s. The evening started with a walk to the Fatima shrine where they said a prayer. Mother Mary Magdalene talked about the design and background of the shrine and property surrounding. They went to the chapel and the Sisters talked about how the furnishings, statues and stained glass windows were all from other churches that had been closed. She also gave a brief talk about Our Lady of Fatima, the Sisters novenas, and welcomed all to participate. Desserts and coffee was served while Mother introduced other Sisters and Postulants and shared information about their daily activities. It was a peace-filled evening. Debbie Sigman commented, "It was an amazing outing, all the ladies enjoyed it. What a beautiful facility and a beautiful group of Sisters!"
Students Visit Adorers of the Blood of Christ Convent
The 4th and 5th graders visited the Adorers of the Blood of Christ Sisters last week.
It is tradition that the 5th graders visit and entertain the ladies a couple times each year as well as write letters. During this visit, the 5th graders played recorders as the entertainment and sang songs. The fourth graders went to meet the Sisters whom they will be writing to. It was a great event, enjoyed by all.
