ASP Stock Sales
Our Appalachian Service Project (ASP) trip is just a few weeks away. We are very excited to head down to Kentucky to help put roofs over heads, provide access to clean water, install a new kitchen floor, … you get the idea. Many of you have expressed an interest in donating to the trip by buying ASP stock. We are completely self-funded – meaning we individually and collectively contribute funds to pay for the trip. Suffice it to say that every donation helps!
ASP stock forms are located in the Link. All necessary instructions are on the form.
Thank you in advance!

Barbecued Ribs for the Food Bank
Again this year we will be helping some of our less fortunate neighbors in Somerset County celebrate July 4th as many of us are able to do by donating pre-cooked barbecued ribs to the Food Bank for their holiday meals. We have made arrangements with ShopRite of Bernardsville to make available for us at a discounted price whatever quantity we would like, in time for delivery for the 4th. Last year, the St. Mark’s family donated more than 125 packages of pre-cooked ribs, at about $12 each, and this year we’d like to set our sights even higher.
If you would like to participate, please make a donation to St. Mark’s for this project as soon as you can and by June 26th at the latest, and we will purchase and deliver to the Food Bank. You can send a check to the office or drop it in the collection basket, just please write “Ribs” on the memo line. And there will be a basket in the back of the church for cash donations.
Book of Joy – save the dates
We had a wonderful turnout for our first meeting. A special thank you to Teri Passerello who led us in yoga after our joyful discussion. This is a great chance to try some gentle yoga and feel some joy. All are welcome for our dates in June and July.
See Father Rick’s intro to this delightful book written by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama in May’s Lion’s Roar, here:
We’ll be meeting in the Heritage Room to take a look at this book on:
Monday June 26, 7PM Day 2 & 3: The Obstacles to Joy
Monday July 10, 7PM Days 4 & 5: The Eight Pillars of Joy
This would be a great time to come, experience joy, and perhaps even bring a friend who you feel could use some joy in their lives.

Somerset County Residents Can Help ‘Curb Hunger’
You can help “curb hunger” in your community!
Freeholder Director Peter S. Palmer has announced that the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the county Recycling Center, county and municipal public works crews, the Food Bank Network of Somerset County and Curbing Hunger Inc. are conducting the
23rd Annual Curbing Hunger Month
food drive throughout Somerset County.
Orange plastic bags
are distributed to all households in May – look for one tied to the handle of your recycling bucket. Or, you can use any plastic grocery bag – just mark it with the word “Food.”
Please place canned food donations in the bags and leave them at the curb on your regularly scheduled recycling collection days from June 5-30.
This gives every household two opportunities to donate. The food is distributed to the Food Bank Network and to other food pantries in the county.
The “most needed” list includes Parmalat milk, canned meat and fish, “meals-in-a-can” such as pasta, stews and meaty soups, canned tomato sauce, canned fruits, and peanut butter and jelly in plastic jars. Perishables and food in glass containers cannot be accepted curbside.
Anyone wishing to make a monetary donation may send a check payable to Curbing Hunger, Inc. at P.O. Box 202, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
There also is an online donation option at
Curbing Hunger Inc. has partnered with Amp Your Good so that anyone can purchase food online and it will be delivered for them directly to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County. The online-donation system includes the option to donate much-needed fresh produce.
