Monday they started on the west side of the church roof.
A new rubber lining that will go inside all the "valley" style guttering we have around the church, this will in effect be as good as new for our gutters! Provided by Wray roofing.
The start of the new paint scheme around the Altar. The red wall have "fleur-di-lis" stenciling in gold leaf on top of it. Also notice the pillars (which were brown before) are now white but will also receive some stenciling/ shadowing finishing touches.
Above the Altar the repair of plaster has begun. THE MURALS WILL NOT BE PAINTED OVER. We are only fixing and repainting the borders around the murals. Yes, there are some cracks that go through the murals, but that will need to be addressed by a restoration expert at a future time.
Dolores Patterson pictured here with her grandson Derek who will be staying with her this week doing a lot of the "grunt" work cleaning and sanding down the statues and bases. 14 statues plus 14 bases is ALOT of work. So neat to see this family business working together for the glory of the church!
The front foyer had the old style "popple" ceiling. It's all been taken off and smoothed out, ready for paint!
Waiting for plaster repairs to dry. More plastic covering in the church, painting will begin soon!
The Stations statues bases. The cherubs are painted white after sanding and repairs - no they won't stay white. This is the base white coat put on before the painting begins.
The larger statues on top still are getting more sanding and repair before getting their white base coats.
On Thursday, the workers are just cleaning up, finished the last of the new shingles and flashing that morning. Fantastic work by Roofing Unlimited. In less than 2 weeks, they had the entire church roof done! And as the 4 layers of old shingles came off, the under roof floor boards were all in good shape! Praise God for a fantastic week of great weather, only one tiny rain shower two nights ago, otherwise perfect weather for this work. You may notice in the background a ladder against the rectory. This was also damaged in the hail storm last year, replacement of the rectory roof will begin next week.
The Church office will be closed on noon Friday, June 16th
